About the Rule of Law Group

A cross-partisan organization dedicated to connecting ordinary Americans across the political spectrum.

What we stand for

We are a cross-partisan organization dedicated to connecting ordinary Americans across the political spectrum and getting them involved in critical state and local efforts to preserve our country's core constitutional and civic values. We do so by advancing high-impact projects, candidates, groups, discussions, and movements that promote:

  1. Protecting the rule of law
  2. Protecting civil liberties
  3. Advancing democratic accountability and transparency for elected officials
  4. Strengthening America's governing institutions, or reforming them as necessary
I don’t think I appreciated how much a democracy depends upon regular people standing up to defend their rights and their powers against the elites who try to usurp them. These days people are happy to give up their rights and power if they can find some strongman or strongwoman willing to take it. This is a much larger part of human nature than I thought.

Operating Principles

High-Impact Focus

Focus on high-impact opportunities where a small investment of time, effort, or money can make a big difference.

Facts & Evidence

Ground decisions in verifiable facts, credible research, and rigorous analysis.

Respectful Dialogue

Build trust through respectful cross-partisan dialogue; disagreement is welcomed, personal attacks are not.

Long-Term Democratic Health

Prioritize long-term democratic health over short-term political wins.

Why we organized

America is in crisis. Overburdened by the forces of hyper-partisanship, institutional distrust, and corruption, our Constitution has failed to stem the tides of authoritarianism. Federal troops are in our cities; masked, armed government officers run amok. We face a multi-faceted problem that has festered over decades. Only a swift, popular effort can restore our democratic values and the rule of law.

The Rule of Law Group seeks to answer one question: what does restoring our democracy look like, and how does it begin? We are law professors, political candidates, doctors, nurses, lawyers, and working professionals across the political spectrum. Our mission is to strengthen democratic norms from the ground up through high-impact campaigns.

Our People

Our members span the political spectrum — from libertarian-leaning Republicans to New Deal Democrats, independents and third-party supporters. What unites us is not ideology, but the belief that the rules must apply to everyone.

Leadership bios coming soon.

Someone has to fix this, so it might as well be us.
